Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position opening in the research group of Prof. C. Heath Turner (http://www.bama.ua.edu/~hturner) within the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. The post-doc will be working within the new $70 million Science and Engineering Building (opening fall 2009), and the post-doc will have full access to local, state, and national supercomputer resources.
The goal of the project is to develop atomistic models for solid-oxide fuel cells. The project is a collaboration with the U. S. Naval Research Lab, and it will primarily involve kinetic Monte Carlo simulations and electrochemical modeling. For more detailed information see:

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline and be highly-motivated to perform fundamental simulation and modeling studies. Previous experience with Monte Carlo or molecular dynamics is required. More specifically, applicants should have extensive experience with code development in Fortran, and prior experience with parallel programming techniques would be an advantage. Applicants should have very strong oral and written communication skills, and a track-record of presentations at national research conferences is expected.
The initial appointment is available for one year, but it may be extended for a longer duration. The annual pay will be in the range of $35-$50K, depending upon qualifications, plus health insurance benefits. Initial inquiries may be sent to Prof. C. Heath Turner: hturner@eng.ua.edu. In a single PDF document, please include: (1) cover letter, (2) full cv, and (3) list of at least three references.
