Faculty Award Reminder

Please be reminded that the deadline for the CoMSEF faculty award is July 1st. The nomination package, consisting of the nominee’s CV, a nomination letter and two supporting letters of recommendation, should be sent as a single file in pdf format to the CoMSEF Chair, Clare McCabe ( c.mccabe@vanderbilt.edu ). Please note self-nominations are discouraged.

17th Symposium on Thermophysical Properties

This is the Seventeenth Symposium of the well-established series of conferences on thermophysical properties. The Symposium is concerned with theoretical, experimental, simulation, and applied aspects of the thermophysical properties of gases, liquids, and solids, including biological systems and will be held June 21 - 26th 2009 in Boulder, Colorado.

The deadline for abstract submission has recently been extended to Jan. 31, 2009

2008 CoMSEF Election

It's time for the election of Vice Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and 2 Liaison Directors for the CoMSEF executive committee. This election will fill the positions of Vice Chair Clare McCabe (who will become chair), Secretary/Treasurer Joe Golab, and Liaison Directors Perla Balbuena and Roland Faller who have completed their terms.

2007 Graduate Student Awards in Computational Molecular Science and Engineering

Congratulations to the 2007 CoMSEF Graduate Student Award winners:

This was the second year that CoMSEF has made awards to recognize excellence in research by graduate students in the field of molecular science and engineering. The two awardees were selected based on a nomination letter and a poster presentation at the November AIChE meeting in Salt Lake City.

Previous Winners:

  • 2006 - Megha Surve (University of Texas, Austin, Advisor: Venkat Ganesan) and Eric Santiso (North Carolina State University, Advisor: Keith Gubbins)

New Liaison Directors

Two new CoMSEF Liaison Directors were recently elected and announced at the CoMSEF meeting in Salt Lake City:

  • Ed Maginn, University of Notre Dame - homepage
  • Brian Peterson, Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. - bio

The role of liaison director includes the following responsibilities:

  1. Be the main contacts with other organizations (groups,
    divisions, forums, and societies). Contact assignments shall be
    assigned by the Chair.
  2. Coordinate programming with other organizations, under the leadership of the Vice Chair.
  3. Communicate and advocate CoMSEF activities with other organizations.
  4. As members of the Executive Committee, aid the officers in developing and carrying out planning.

Note that the current CoMSEF newsletter includes a tribute to Prof. Gubbins written by Ken Cox and that Prof. Gubbins will be honoried at two sessions during the AIChE annual meeting in Salt Lake City:
